Chapter One
Neurotic Monkey Man

Guilty until proven innocent.
Cecelia was painfully unaware of the strict programming the SPU cyborgs had. She had been filled to the brim with innocent ignorance since birth. Because of this, Cecelia believed that she fell under the right to be protected.
This was her first step into discovering that the law didn’t serve to protect her. But who did it serve to protect if not her, a law-abiding obedient citizen? A citizen who was now being mistreated and punished for aiding a fallen neighbor.
Mrs. Chesterson’s sapphire blue purse fell into the street.
“Officer please, she’s injured and needs medical care.”
The monkey man pointed at Cecelia with both hands, hooting and hollering. “She pushed down that woman and tried to steal her purse!”
Cecelia stood there baffled–the absurdity!– surely the SPU could see that the man was on drugs. Cecelia was a good citizen. She followed the rules. Did everything right. She was an obedient citizen.
Cecelia exclaimed. “That’s not true!”
The SPU officer yanked her away, practically carrying her to their matte black vehicle. His hold was bone-crushing, her arm just a twig compared to his titanium reinforced auto mechanical build.
She struggled to turn her sore body and watch from the rear window as medical services arrived at the scene to take Mrs. Chesterson away. Her purse lay in the street like a shiny jewel left out in the open for someone with sticky fingers to swipe.
The SPU officers loaded into the vehicle and started down the street. A boiling rage filled Cecelia as she watched the neurotic primate snag Mrs. Chesterson’s purse and walk away with a fistful of cash.
Cecelia, 29-year-old average woman with an average existence, for the first time in her life in Xion began to question everything she knew about the SPU and her beloved home.
